Weekend in the Snow
Friday loomed with pouring rain all day but as the coach headed up across the moors to Alston, the rain turned to snow, so that the road was covered and we proceeded with caution. Snowballs were the order of the day after settling in and the evening meal.
21 Year 7’s and 8’s with Mr Clarke, Frau Michel and Mr Wood spent an exhilarating weekend skiing on the slopes of Alston Moor with a portable rope tour to pull us back up. This was a first time experience for many and most could snow plough by the end – a few more experienced pupils showed us the way!
A half day mine exploration was also completed with climbing and initiatives on the Sunday. The evenings were busy with an egg dropping competition from an upstairs window, with parachutes devised by the teams, a night line and initiative exercises.
This was a fabulous weekend. The only time we hit substantial snow in our 15 years at Alston. All returned safely (and very tired) on Sunday afternoon.
