P.E. and Games play a vital part in pupils’ personal development.

We promote a healthy, active lifestyle through a range of sports and team games including rugby, hockey, tennis, cricket, swimming, gymnastics, athletics, football, squash, golf, fencing and judo.

As well as local and regional fixtures we run annual sports tours within the UK and abroad. Our own field study centre at Alnham in the Cheviot Hills is regularly used by pupils of all ages to take part in a variety of Outdoor Pursuits, and acts as a base for the large numbers who take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. Sixth Form students may take the Central Council for Physical Recreation course for Community Sports Leader’s Award.

The School has a large, well-equipped sports hall and a modern fitness suite; extensive playing fields at Prior’s Park virtually adjacent to the School; further grounds are at The Square, a short walk away.

We have built up an outstanding record of sporting achievement with team and individual efforts being recognised at county, regional, national and international levels in a wide variety of sports.
