From four-year-olds learning to love learning to 18-year-olds preparing for university, we see education as continuous growth of the whole person. Our Kindergarten develops learning skills early through sound classroom practice and a wide range of educational experiences. Drama and music productions create a sense of fun and help our children to learn to love learning. In Junior School, we strive to ignite our pupils’ curiosity for literacy, numeracy, ICT and Science. The Junior School has its own designated areas and it shares all the facilities of the Senior School. Years 7-9 face a balanced, challenging curriculum. Setting is progressively introduced in some subjects from Year 7 to enable specialist help at KS3 and smooth transition into GCSE. A second modern foreign language (choice of Spanish or German) is introduced in Year 8. Years 10 & 11 study nine or ten subjects to GCSE examination level. The compulsory core subjects are Mathematics and English Language and Literature, three Sciences (all setted), Physical Education, Games and PSE (a programme of careers advice, health education, moral education and responsible citizenship). Additional subjects are chosen from a wide range of options, as indicated on the list enclosed with this prospectus. The Sixth-form is for all pupils a preparation for entry to universities, including Oxford and Cambridge. A separate Sixth Form prospectus is available from the Admissions office. Sixthformers take responsibility in the school and wider community, whilst developing the skills to be successful at university.
